Aha! Thanks for that! :)
Hmm... is there an easier way to do this with a standard camera or something? I have a DSLR Olympus E-330, a standard professional camera---is there a special thing I could do, like hold up a magnifying glass or some common object I could use that's in the average household? Maybe I could do something unharmful to my camera?

i don't think there is a way without literally taking apart the lens. you could buy something called a "lensbabies", which is a bellows you can attach to a lens. i don't know if this works well or not.

you can also actually buy a tilt/shift lens, but they are rather pricey. try ebay or craigslist.

or you could do as i did and buy a bellows camera. in my case, a speed graphic. takes a while to learn the ropes, but once you do it's quite simple.

I've been spending a lot of money recently so I won't be getting one of those for a while but thanks a lot for all the help and info! I think I'm going to try experimenting with a magnifying glass, and other various transparent items to see what kind of effects I can get... Then if I still want to do an effect just like this I'll try saving up for one of those bellow lenses. :)
How much are the bellows cameras?

actually, not too expensive. the graphic cameras (speed graphic, crown graphic) are the type that journalists used to use in the forties and fifties. they take a little getting used to and are slightly more bulky than what you might be used to, but really open up a world creatively.

i bought mine off of ebay for about $230. check craigslist also. they are definitely around and not too expensive. let me know if you want any more info, i'm happy to share.

Thanks a lot for the extra info! That sounds really cool. Antique cameras are always some of the best. The newer ones make pictures look... a little too much like what you see and make pictures often boring. I've been spending a lot of money recently so I don't think I'll get one anytime soon but I will definitely look into it when I'm ready... :)

thanks very much.

shooting with a speed graphic is definitely not a comfortable experience and it's nice to capture usable images.
